Hello and Goodbye Quest Pro

By Joseph
Posted in Personal
Quest Pro is too heavy for me. I can wear it for about 10 minutes before neck strain sets in. Those extra 200 grams push me over the limit I guess. For comparison, I can wear Quest 2 for 2-3 hours. I’m bummed about this, but I’m returning my Quest Pro. This headset is amazing,…

Stray (PS5)

By Joseph
Posted in Personal
I finally got my hands on a PlayStation 5. The first game I played was Stray, which has to be one of the most enjoyable non-vr games I’ve played since Fire Watch. Playing this with the new Duel Sense controller and spatial audio was amazing. Seeing such a great implementation of this tech on PS5…

Note: This post was written for a friend who recently got a Meta Quest 2. I decided to post it here just in case someone else finds it useful. This is not a tutorial or a set of technical instructions. It’s just a list of things to check out in and around VR. Hardware &…

Superliminal (PS4)

By Joseph

I’ve had this in my PS4 library for a while now and finally made some time to play it. Interesting puzzles, weird story, and an art style that I appreciate. This game is definitely my jam. Here are a few of my favorite photos from the game.

Using PlayCanvas Events to build a Sequential Timeline

By Joseph
Posted in Technical
I’m working on a VR side project that can be summed up as a narrative experience. The app will consist of approximately ten minutes of an audio discussion, with scene entities giving the appearance of reacting to the dialog. I needed a timeline to keep it all coordinated, so I built one. I made a…

This was a short test recording I made with Adobe Podcast (beta as of Sep 2023).

    Recording:

    Unedited transcript:

Joseph: This is just a test of the new Adobe Podcast app. It’s in beta and I’ve been on the waiting list for a couple of months and I got the email this weekend. So I’m talking into my MacBook with no microphone or anything, just using the the built in MacBook Pro microphone. And I’m sitting on my couch not terribly close to it and talking pretty quietly at my normal tone and not necessarily holding still or trying to be quiet. So. Yeah. That’s where it put this thing through its paces and see what it can do with mouth sounds and background sound or whatever. But yeah, I’m just going to talk for about, I don’t know, five more seconds and then I’ll stop and see what it sounds

    Notes

    • Editing is a bit limited
    • Exports are large and would need to be mixed down
    • Chrome only
    • Beta for now, pricing unknown

    Pancakes and Space.

Pancakes = the 2D (normal) UI/UX work I do all day

Space = the 3D/VR work I tinker with

Apple Vision Pro = Pancakes IN Space
