Extended Collection: adding a hero section with Kadence Elements
The Extended Collection website is a simple WordPress site that is made almost entirely of posts. The home page is just a feed from the post archive, not something custom.
I wanted to add an email sign-up hero to this, but since it’s not actually a WordPress Page I couldn’t just edit it and add blocks directly.
Enter Kadence Elements. This nifty feature for the Pro add-on for the Kadence Theme lets me add WordPress Block content virtually anywhere on the site. Set up was simple.
- Create a new element. I chose content as the type.
- Add Blocks to create the content/widget that I wanted. I used the Kadence Design Library to pick an existing Hero section and customized it a bit.
- Added the Jetpack Subscribe block to collect the email subscriptions.
- Used the style and advanced sections of the Row Layout Kadence block to override the styles of the contained blocks.
- Configured the Element to show on the Front Page, before all other content.
It took me longer to write this blog post than it did to set this up. It’s times like this that keep me coming back to WordPress and Kadence in particular.
This is what it looks like on the site.
