Year in Review: 2024
I had an amazing year in 2024. I had the opportunity to work on some exciting projects and I learned so much about visionOS development. Here are my highlights from the year.
Jan 1: Is It Vision Pro Day
I started off the year with a joke website. This was sort of a transient microblog that I updated each day until Apple Vision Pro launched.
Feb 2: The launch of Apple Vision Pro
After years of waiting for Apple to enter the XR space, I finally got my device. It’s far from perfect, but I’m still just as thrilled to have it as I was nearly 11 months go.
Feb 2: Project Graveyard
I was one of 600 developers worldwide to release an app on launch day.
Feb 6-8: Attended Claris Engage
I attended Claris Engage in Austin where I helped launch a new tool for FileMaker developers, FMLayoutLens. I showed the WebXR prototype of that tool to more than 40 people.
Jan-Sep: Canvatorium Visio
I created 32 visionOS labs and demos in the Canvatorium series on my personal website. This project led me to create Step Into Vision later in the year.
Jun: Looming Deadlines
I spent three weeks creating a prototype of an app called Looming Deadlines. I learned a ton about window management, which led me to the first series of articles and examples on Step Into Vision.
July-Sep: Columbus visionOS Developers
I launched a new Meetup in Columbus Ohio. Some friends came to the first meeting, but then no one was interested after that. As an alternative, I’m in the process of starting a new virtual meeting called Step Into Office Hours.
Sep: Vision Hack
I participated in the first global Vision Hack where my submission “A Bright Idea” won the award for Most Beautiful Design.
Aug-Dec: Step Into Vision
I launched a beta version of Step Into Vision at the end of the summer. So far I’ve added 85 items to the site.
