Goodbye, Oculus
I parted with my Oculus and Meta headsets.
On Feb 11, 2025 I decided it was finally time to let go of these devices. The only one I used recently was the Meta Quest 3. I haven’t developed for the Quest (now Horizon) platform in years. I did a fair bit of WebXR development with Quest 2 and 3, which was the main reason I kept these around. But it has been over a year since my last WebXR project. I’m focused on native development with visionOS these days and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
That left personal use. I kept using the Quest 3 for workouts and fitness for a while. I love this use case of XR, but it wasn’t enough. The OS has been super buggy for a while now, but this winter things got even worse. Nearly every time I put on the headset I had some major issues that required a reboot. I just don’t have the time or patience to deal with crap software on a platform that I’m not even interested in.
Another major reason I’m happy to part with these is the recent change in how Meta has positioned itself. They were very eager to appease the worst people and showed who they really are. I don’t want to support people that like. I don’t want to develop for their platform. I don’t want to buy anything on their store. I don’t want to share data with them. I want them to go away.

I sold my Quest 3 and Quest 2 to some folks at the local VR meetup. I gave away the Oculus Go and Quest 1. For the first time since 2017, I am the owner of a single XR headset. That may not last, because I might pick up a PS VR 2 to use for fitness.
I also deleted my profiles and accounts on Threads, Instagram, and FB.
