Notes on Red Matter
With the recent announcement of Red Matter 2, I decided to revisit this game on Quest.
Red Matter was one of the first games I bought for the Oculus Quest in 2019. It’s made by the same developers who made Daedalus. I was impressed by it back then and I’m just as impressed now nearly three years later while playing on a Quest 2.
While the game play is simple, I really enjoyed exploring this world and unveiling the story bit by bit.
The first time through, I was sort of expecting a jump scare at some point, but that never happened. Knowing that, playing this again the second time was much more fun. I was able to relax and immerse myself in the environment and slowly consider elements of the story being told.
One thing that stands out is the blend of teleport movement with a jetpack. It’s hard to describe, but it’s something that I’m going to try to reproduce in Canvatorium. A short video shows this in action.
I won’t give anything about the story away. Let’s just say that I’m looking forward to Red Matter 2 later this year.
